MWI Direct is pleased to announce a major expansion of our digital print and finishing platforms with this install of the Canon ProStream 1800. This new data-driven variable print technology will position us as the premier provider for direct marketers nationwide. Below are the specifics of exactly what has been installed and how it can benefit you and your company.
We have been monitoring production inkjet solutions over the last several years. High-speed production inkjet has been mainly been used in the statement printing space because the technology was not able to achieve the quality our customers would expect or accept. In the Fall of 2019, a few manufactures introduced the first truly high-speed, high quality production inkjet devices. We looked at the systems available, ran our quality tests, and in February of this year selected the Canon ProStream 1800. Canon is the clear leader in production inkjets worldwide. This new technology combines traditional web printing/off-line variable imaging all in one process. We are now able to print data-driven variable text and graphics at the same time, eliminating the need for frequent plate changes and a secondary pass on monochrome digital equipment. The net result is a dynamic print-on-demand marketing piece that goes through fewer operations in a fraction of the time. From a few thousand pieces to a few million, the ProStream is perfectly suited to deliver on quality, timeliness, and price. I anticipate we will be running 90% of all personalized or addressed pieces with this new technology by the end of 2020. No more shells, wasted inventory, or excessive overs…you only pay for what mails, not what’s printed. The cost savings of the ProStream along with the elimination of wasted forms makes this a big win for all budget minded marketers. When you take advantage of enhanced personalization via graphics or messaging you can expect to see a significant increase in response rates as well.
To maximize the benefits of the color inkjet web we have partnered with MBO America and have installed a fully automated high-speed finishing line. It will process the printed rolls, unwind, trim, cut, fold, perf, score, and glue at speeds up to four times greater than conventional finishing. The net result is faster finishing with fewer off-line touches.
I am convinced that this long-term strategy will benefit our company, and the companies we serve for many years to come. This advanced technology is the single biggest change I have seen in my 35 years in the direct marketing business. I truly believe that this new technology is the primary avenue to reduce cost, reduce turnaround times, and increase response rates.
We welcome the opportunity to discuss how MWI and the ProStream 1800 can improve your marketing performance.
